On this tour your will join in for a true night time adventure in Rovaniemi. This tour combines backcountry skiing with some great locations to witness the Northern Lights! With our special skin-based skis we are able to reach the best spots surrounded by authentic and untouched nature. Our specialisation in Aurora photography combined with the knowledge of great photographing locations ensures that on this adventurous photography tour you reach the best spots for capturing the ultimate Aurora photo!
We dive into Arctic forest and ski through some beautiful locations to experience and photograph the Northern Lights and surrounding nature in night time. The forest presents a whole different side of natural beauty in the dark of the night. The calm and silence of the night offer you a chance to hear the nocturnal sounds of the Lappish wilderness. We use specialist skis that can take us through the deep snow and untouched terrain of Lapland. Using only headlamps, we get enough light to manoeuvre through the forest and to reach the spots in the middle of the nocturnal nature, while not causing light pollution.
Northern Lights are always unpredictable and there is no guarantee that they will appear during the tour. Because of this, our main focus is in skiing and experiencing the wonders of Arctic nature at night. What sets this tour apart from our highly popular Northern Lights hunting tour are the locations, which are reachable only with backcountry skis, thus taking our nocturnal nature photography to a whole new level.
The adventure starts from our office where we equip the team with proper gear and clothing. Then we will drive to our location in the forest and get ready to enter the woods. Once we leave the minivan, we make an equipment check and set all the cameras to be ready for night photography. Northern Lights are unpredictable, so we need to be ready to get the cameras out and ready fast!
We recommend some earlier skiing experience during this night trip. Night time cross-country skiing can be challenging since the terrain is only visible through the headlamp. We also arrange day time backcountry skiing adventures which could provide you some experience before joining the tour.
As our tours are photography based and quite demanding we have a minimum age of 10 years to participate in our activities. If you are traveling with younger children, please contact us and we’ll arrange a private tour for you!
